Anti-Aliasing & Text Decisions
By Crimson Fox
Set-up: Text is something that you add on as the final part of your work. So be sure that you finished with all other thinks before hand.
Getting Ready: Be sure the Anti-Alias is turned on, it should be the button between the text size and the bold button.
Explanation: Here you play with the different fonts, sizes and so on until you get it the way you want. First type what you want to say in your image, make it Arial font and a color that stands out so you can read it so you don't end up with errors. After reading it over to be sure you got it right, you then highlight your text and go through the fonts you have. Find a font style that works with your image. When you find the right font, you then pick a color and sizes that works with both the font and your image. Overall you are done, but at times your text may need a kick to make it look better, but be warned, sometimes just average text with nothing else may work the best. If your work does need more then go to Effects > Down arrow next to All > Pick Text Effects. You will be given effects you can use to spice up your text. There is also the Layers Style button next to Effects to help increase your choices of ways to make your text look smokin.
Examples:
This is to show how Anti-Alias looks the top part is with it on and the buttom is with it off. They do have the same fonts. Notice that when it is on it looks much smoother and less pixely as the other one. So be sure you have it on when you do your text.
This is an example of how you don't always need to have overly showy text to make it look perfect.
Now on here adding more makes it all the better. I used a medium outline of brown for the fall theme. When doing outlines, you will want to have the outline layer under the normal text. Then with the original text I went to Layer Styles -> Bevels -> Simple Outer to give it the effect. Then with the eraser tool set at a low opacity erased the main text so that you can see a bit of the background.
And there you have it! Now go make some sigs :)
