Site History
The Spriting Shack began with a simple PM on the Psypoke community forums. Tennis8668, the founder, imagined a place where one could receive excellently designed artwork for his/her avatar or signature. The problem was that most graphics shops on forums were run by amateur artists. Thus, tennis8668 set out on a mission to start a community of elite computer artists to deliver quality artwork to the Pokemon fan community. Tennis8668 decided that if he was to succeed, he would need the help of others, and so he PMed one of his good friends on Psypoke, Swampert20. Swampert20 was thrilled with the idea of co-founding The Spriting Shack, and together, they made a forum. Gradually, members started to join, and it became more than a place to request advanced art. Members were actively posting in Spriting Resources, a forum where one could link to helpful spriting guides and generators. But members were not only linking to helpful sites, some had begun to write their own guides to help the Spriting Shack community. Gradually, the sum of member-written guides grew, and tennis8668 decided there should be a main site where TSS could house the tutorials. He bought the domain name http://www.thespritingshack.com/ and for a while used Freewebs as a hosting solution.
Using Freewebs, tennis8668 uploaded the tutorials written by members and added a couple other little things. However, the amount of advertisements Freewebs had was irritating everyone. Tennis8668 considered buying premium service, but Freewebs as a host was also a little too basic.
So, in search for a better host, tennis8668 stumbled upon FreeHostia.com, which is what is currently used to run the site. In his opinion, FreeHostia was excellent for TSS's needs, because not only was it ad free, but it let tennis8668 write the source code.
And here we are today :O
